The world of fillers and Neuromodulators is both vast and confusing: before you end up researching yourself down a WebMD page convinced that you’re dying, we’re here to make it simple. New England Skin Center’s own Tobi Baker-Daigle (RN and Specialized Cosmetic Registered Nurse Injector) along with Christine McMackin (Certified Advanced Aesthetic Specialist and Certified Family Nurse Practitioner) are breaking down what you need to know.

Neuromodulators

It’s a scary word, but with seriously awesome results. Neuromodulators, Christine explains, are anti-wrinkle injections. The most common (and the ones offered at NESC) are Botox and Dysport.

“It’s never too late to start, but a lot of people don’t realize that Botox and Dysport are also preventative.” Tobi and Christine go on to explain that patients in their mid to late 20s come in for what they dub “baby Botox.” They recommend coming in as early as 25 — which is when the first signs of aging begin (think the very beginning stages of crow’s feet, the 11’s between the brows, and/or forehead lines beginning to appear).

Although Christine explains that preventative is always better than corrective, it’s never too late to start treatment. For those in their 30s and beyond, it’s important to educate yourself and to set realistic expectations. With consistent anti-wrinkle injections and patience, it is still possible to get your desired result— it just may not be as immediate as you hope.

Of course, anti-wrinkle injections aren’t one size fits all. At New England Skin Center, we have individual and ongoing consultations with all of our patients to help tailor their injections. All Tobi and Christine ask is that you come in with an open mind; when it comes to anti-wrinkle injections, the injector and ingredients used are what set NESC apart. Christine shares that one of her and Tobi’s favorite ways to boost and refresh the face with injections is by lifting the brow, which can begin to feel and appear heavy as we age. In fact, the duo often attend conferences to learn about the latest techniques, and make a point to teach other practitioners themselves, helping to empower newer generations of Nurse Injectors.

Dermal Fillers

As we age, Christine explains “everything falls down.” In this instance she’s referring to the structure of our face and the loss of volume that occurs naturally with time. She continues, “the lower third of the face ends up bearing the burden as the facial structure shifts downward.”

Fillers help to restore lost face structure and give the appearance of turning back time five to ten years. As Tobi eloquently quips, “the goal is to help you look like yourself, but more refreshed and more glam.” For patients in their 40s, 50s and 60s, filler can be used to contour the jaw and bring back volume to the cheeks. Another popular area is the lips: as we age the lips thin out, and grow longer and flatter: filler has the ability to restore hydration for youthful poutiness (and even a bit more pout, if that’s what you’re into).

While fillers are great for treating age-related woes, they can also be fun! There’s no specific age requirement for wanting a specific look, and filler can help achieve different styles. Whether you’re looking for a top model look with contoured cheeks, Kylie Jenner lips, or simply a bit of a volume boost, Tobi and Christine are all about making the procedure work for you. That being said, their philosophy is that the best work goes unnoticed. Christine goes on to gush over a patient’s feedback explaining that her husband described the post-procedure look appearing as though “nothing, but everything had changed.” (That is a great compliment!)

When it comes to fillers and injections, it does require maintenance and NESC is here to help tailor a plan to your individual ideal outcome. At NESC, every appointment is a new conversation. The dynamic is always changing since we’re all living organisms; creating an ongoing plan is key. Christine further adds, “it’s not one and done. We love talking to our patients and learning about their short term and long term goals.”  It’s easy to think about fillers and injections as paying per syringe, but it’s critical to remember that what you’re really paying for is an outcome.

With 20+ years of experience, Tobi and Christine have worked hard to become the practiced injectors that they are today. The pair half-joke that they were injecting “before it was cool,” gaining clout and skill in plastic surgery offices and operating rooms. “Our knowledge base spans years.  We didn’t just take a weekend course on Botox and open up a practice immediately,” Christine adds.

The female-owned business is committed to ongoing education, learning the latest techniques and trends and sharing their knowledge with the gorgeous clients of NESC.
